Seattle’s Makeready is a free virtual event in May featuring over 35 artists, designers, printers, and publishers in a series of online conversations, studio visits, and workshops that explore the process of making an art book from start to finish. Makeready speakers will share a wide variety of work—from personal zines to one-of-a-kind artists’ books; from trade art/literary books to contemporary art editions.
The virtual event begins tonight, May 14, with a makers’ conversation on why artists choose books as a form to express their ideas. Makeready continues through the month with studio tours of groups like Paper Press Punch, a small Risograph print and book studio run by artists Jessica Hoffman and Justin Quinlan; workshops on DIY art book making led by artists like Ho Tam of British Columbia’s Hotam Press; and “office hours” for those who want to discuss their projects with fellow publishers.
