The Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association offers educational programming on the opening day of its 2016 Tradeshow, being held at Hotel Murano, in downtown Tacoma, WA. The full day of sessions takes place on September 30, 2016, the day before the exhibit floor opens. PNBA’s Education Committee will review proposals for educational presentations aimed at retail booksellers, librarians, authors and small press publishers. The Committee consists of nine members, including seven booksellers, one librarian, and one small press publisher.
The Education Committee traditionally prioritizes presentations for booksellers that offer direct advice and instruction that can be immediately and directly applied to the operations of their stores. Sessions that include a variety of participants are especially attractive. Marketing and Promotion are popular themes. Sales pitch presentations that are perceived to promote just one business solution or service are discouraged.
PNBA is also soliciting proposals for education aimed at librarians, small press publishers, and authors.
Sessions are held in a panel format with at least one bookseller participating as a panelist or moderator. PNBA may be able to assist in finding appropriate booksellers, authors, or other literary professionals willing to participate in proposed sessions. Please include such requests in proposals. All sessions should promote an atmosphere of cooperation amongst literary entities.
Applications should be submitted online via PNBA.org’s Education Contact Form. Proposals are due May 20. Applicants will be notified of the status of proposals by Friday, July 1. Committee members will contact presenters via email to schedule sessions and secure details for production of the show program, show signage, and classroom set-up.
WE ARE NOT INTERESTED IN PROPOSALS THAT INSTRUCT AUTHORS OR PRESSES HOW TO PUBLISH, PROMOTE, OR SELL BOOKS THROUGH AMAZON OR OTHER CHANNELS THAT COMPETE WITH THE INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORE MARKET. – PNBA
