This spring, Brian will succeed Thom Chambliss as Executive Director of the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association. Juenemann, the PNBA Marketing Director for the past 10 years, was chosen by the PNBA Board following a national search. He worked as a bookseller, Returns Coordinator, and Author Event Coordinator at the University of Oregon Bookstore for over a decade. Juenemann also writes the monthly The Local Shelf literary column for The Register-Guard’s Oregon Life section.
After learning of the selection of Brian Juenemann as PNBA’s new Executive Director, Chambliss said, “I feel very lucky to have worked with Brian for more than ten years, and I am really pleased that the PNBA Board of Directors has confirmed that the work Brian and I have done together will continue in Brian’s capable hands for the future. PNBA will see improved communications with authors and publishers, and I am totally confident that Brian will be an even better representative of the Association than I have been.” Juenemann will assume the role of executive director March 1, following Chambliss’s retirement.
Thom Chambliss served as PNBA’s Executive Director for over 22 years. Through his time with the organization, Chambliss championed independent bookstores and Pacific Northwest authors, helping indies weather tech booms and bursting bubbles, big box stores and online retail.
His last tradeshow, in October in Portland, featured the greatest number of authors in PNBA show history, with sold-out events like the Dinner at the Kids’ Table, with children’s author and illustrator presentations. As Marketing Director, Brian Juenemann managed a thriving annual holiday catalog program, developed relationships to benefit stores, authors, and publishers, and helped organize tradeshow events and the promotion and presentation of the Pacific Northwest Book Awards.
