This fall, Cedar Street Editions brings out two novels about independence and love in late 19th century Denmark by the author of The Palace of the Snow Queen. Both books were inspired by the youthful romance between the composer Carl Nielsen and the artist and ethnographer Emilie Demant Hatt.
Author Barbara Sjoholm is the author of The Palace of the Snow Queen: Winter Travels in Lapland, and the memoirs Blue Windows and Incognito Street. As Barbara Wilson she also wrote two mystery series. She is a translator of Norwegian and Danish, and has written travel essays for The New York Times, Slate, and Smithsonian. Her translation of Emilie Demant Hatt’s With the Lapps in the High Mountains: A Woman Among the Sami 1907-8 was published by the University of Wisconsin Press in 2013. She was co-founder of Seal Press and worked there for many years as a publisher and editor. Cedar Street Editions is a new publishing company based in Port Townsend, Washington.
