As reported in NW Book Lovers this week, Island Books is undergoing a change of ownership. “It’s musical chairs, not a curtain call or a revolution,” wrote Roger Page, who has operated the store with his wife Nancy since 1973. The Pages were recently named Mercer Island Citizens of the Year, and both wanted to continue the store’s legacy as a center of the community.
“Laurie Raisys is a longtime Mercer Islander who has the warmth, creativity, integrity, and confidence that the store needs to carry it far into the future,” stated Page in an announcement of the sale. “She also has our trust and affection. We have signed on to stay and will be working for her, just trading hats. She will wear the hat decorated with the joys, dreams, and challenges of ownership.”
