Pacific Northwest Booksellers sent out their traditional “Call for Authors” for their Fall Tradeshow. This year’s PNBA’s 2015 Fall Tradeshow Northwest takes place October 2 to 4 at the Holiday Inn PDX in Portland, OR. PNBA expects at least 225 booksellers from more than 90 Northwest stores, and up to 50 librarians from as many as 20 libraries, to attend this fall’s show.
Proposals for author appearances should be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org, with links to your author’s web site, the publisher’s page with info about the book, and any reviews, blurbs or recommendations for the book that are available. On Monday, June 8, the list of proposed authors will be submitted to PNBA’s Selection Committee, which will supply a prioritized list to PNBA staff by June 12.
PNBA staff will begin sending invitations for authors on Monday, June 15. Publicists may request that their authors be featured at specific events, but invitations will be based on the priority assigned by the Selection Committee, and on PNBA staffs’ decisions assuring the widest variety of authors at each event.
The following type of author spots are available. Note that PNBA charges fees for each spot and publishers are expected to supply a certain number of books for each appearance.
* four at the Book & Author Breakfast on Saturday, October 3; and
* four at the Book & Author Breakfast on Sunday, October 4.
Publishers donate at least 150 pre-signed books or ARCs, and pay a $500 promo fee per author.
Twenty spots for nationally and NW-known authors to meet with booksellers during dinner. Authors will rotate through tables of booksellers, spending 15 minutes with each group, at a banquet on Saturday evening, October 3rd. Publishers donate at least 150 books or ARCs, and pay a $350 promo fee per author.
CELEBRATION OF AUTHORS
At the Education Day Luncheon (Friday, October 2) ten relatively new regional authors will speak briefly about their new books. Authors must agree to visit PNBA member stores. Publishers donate at least 75 copies of each book for the signings, and pay a $225 promo fee per author.
EVENING AUTOGRAPHING PARTIES
On Friday, October 2, from 8:30 – 10:00 pm the annual Nightcapper, to end the first day of the convention, features an eclectic group of 20+ authors meeting the booksellers and librarians and signing copies of their new books in a lively reception that often includes authors as performers. This is a great event in which to show attendees what kind of event an author might produce in their stores or libraries.
The next night, Saturday, October 3, immediately following the Author Feast, from 8:30 – 10:00 pm, will be the Sweet & Greet Party for a separate group of 20+ authors, in a more relaxed event. Both parties will include desserts and coffee.
For autographing parties, publishers donate 75-100 copies of each book, and pay a $225 promo fee per author at each event.
HOLD ON, I’M COMING
Between four and six authors with exciting new books due out in 2016 will be invited to speak at the show’s final author event, a lunch on Sunday, October 4, on the show floor. Publishers donate at least 75 copies of each book (ARCs of course), and pay a $250 promo fee per author.
