From 40 to 115, Indies Age Well

Seattle bookstore turns 115 this year.

Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association noted that two of their members recently passed milestone anniversaries.

The University of Washington’s University Book Store turned 115 years-old on January 10. Two students started the store in a cloakroom adjacent the president’s office in 1900 and it is now, according to Bookselling This Week, the oldest and largest indie in the state.

Vancouver’s Vintage Books appropriately celebrated its 40th anniversary on Valentine’s Day. Owner Becky Milner currently serves as PNBA’s vice president.
