BookExpo America Opens In New York

BEA_logo_starburstBookExpo America opened today in New York City at the Jacob K. Javits Center. North America’s largest book industry convention will run May 28 – May 31, 2014. A number of smaller conventions and events take place within the show, including a convention for those interested in digital publishing, a chance for start-ups to pitch to potential investors, and new opportunities for independent authors and small press publishers to connect with booksellers and the media covering the event.

This year, BEA will launch a consumer event called BookCon on Saturday, May 31, which is expected to attract upwards of 8,000 additional attendees to the show.

“We have over 750 authors participating in panels, autographings, and other special appearances throughout the course of our convention,” said Steve Rosato, Show Manager for BEA. “We have top quality media in attendance and so BEA and BookCon will provide exhibitors and authors as well as other industry professionals with a rare opportunity to network as well promote their product.”

One of the highlights of Wednesday’s programming will be James Patterson speaking to Al Roker from NBC’s Today Show about Patterson’s $1 million independent bookstore campaign. Helping Bookstores, Saving Lives: James Patterson’s $1M Indie Store Campaign will take place on Wednesday, May 28, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
