BEA wrap-up blog focuses on small press and sidelines

Every year, Al Canton of Adams-Blake Publishing in Fair Oaks, CA, writes a BEA Diary focused on small press, sidelines, and independent publishing awards. BookExpo America took place in New York City at the Jacob K. Javits Center. It is the largest book industry event in North America, and one of the largest annual gatherings of English language publishers in the world. A number of events precede or surround the exhibition, including the Benjamin Franklin Awards, the IPPY awards, Digital Book 2013, and so on.

This was the year that he almost didn’t make it, he reported, as Reed Exhibitions denied a number of media badges for the 2013 show. After a bit of negotiating and some clever PR, Canton returned to his “beat” as a stringer for publications wanting articles on BEA.

Here’s the whole storyfrom Canton’s viewpoint, including lots of photos, of this year’s BEA.

BEA 2013

Canton says that anyone may reprint any part or all of his BEA Diary 2013 without advance permission so long as proper attribution is given.
