Ever wondered why some book covers appeal to you while others you don’t even see them? There is more at play here than the author’s name or content of the book. There are hidden forces working their magic upon you so that you’ll feel attracted to it, according to Joe Calkins, who will be the guest speaker for the May meeting of Northwest Writers & Publishers Association (NWPA).
Calkins is a self-taught illustrator and graphic designer residing near Portland, Oregon. While most of his finished works are digital these days, they all include some hand-drawn or painted elements in the process. When not illustrating, he dabbles in all forms of traditional art media and spends his time operating his sign, print and graphic design business, Spartan Advertising Group.
