More than 20 publishers submitted titles for the PNBA Fall Trade Show display, more than half dozen authors showed up at our booth on Sunday to sign and give away books, and the message “BUY LOCAL” was heard loud and clear by booksellers and librarians visiting the show.
Many booksellers remarked that they were open to doing group events at the stores — particularly those located in more remote parts of the state. We’ll be sending out “leads” to our members over the next few weeks and trying to build up more information for potential author tours for local publishers.
Other tips gathered on the trade show floor: do include information on distribution for your titles on brochures or postcards aimed at booksellers and librarians. Many asked if books were available through Partners West, Ingram, or Baker & Taylor. That information should be easily found on your brochure or bookmark — many members altered their material by simply adding a sticker with this information to the “address” area of a postcard.
Display books not picked up by members on Sunday were donated to the Rural Library Drive. We received a big “Thank You!” from the volunteer working in that booth. The Craig Public Library of Craig, AK, will be receiving a container of books shipped there by Partners West, made possible by donations from exhibitors throughout the show.
Everyone remarked that the energy and enthusiasm displayed by all BPNW members throughout the weekend was terrific. From Saturday education sessions to Sunday Book Buzz at Sheryn Hara’s booth, you could find BPNW members working the show from all angles.
BPNW Board would like to extend a special thanks to Thom Chambliss and Larry West of PNBA for accomodating many last minute requests.
