Book Publishers Northwest member Ray Pfortner has been appointed the new Director of Education of Seattle’s Photographic Center Northwest (PCNW).
Pfortner has been a PCNW faculty member since 2004, focusing on the business aspects of photography. Since 2001 he has been an instructor at community colleges and art centers throughout the region. He serves as a consultant to photographers on business practices and book publishing. Pfortner has worked in photography for more than 30 years as a stock agent, book editor, photographer’s representative, an educator, and a photographer specializing in landscape and environmental-issue imagery. After assuming his new position at PCNW in September, Pfortner Pfortner became responsible for all aspects of the development and implementation of the Center’s fine art curriculum and the faculty teaching that curriculum.
“The new position affords me an enormous opportunity to shape the course offerings at one of the region’s premier photography education organizations at a time when our industry is undergoing a revolution. I am excited about the possibilities – and most honored at being selected,” Pfortner said.
The Photographic Center Northwest is an accredited leader in the education and promotion of fine art photography. It offers intensive day and evening courses plus workshops that can be taken individually or as part of a full certificate program. PCNW also offers a gallery exhibiting internationally renowned photographers plus an outreach program which serves photographers throughout the region.
Book Publishers Northwest will hold its November 12 meeting at PCNW. Pfortner will offer members a tour of the facility and then discuss how to forge a good business relationship between publishers and photographers. The November 12 meeting will be 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at PCNW, 900 12th Ave, Seattle, WA.
